April 2012 Roundup #4

1. What reading/learning did I do this month? (books, blogs, magazines, ebooks, podcasts, classes, etc.)
I read:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen for the umpteen millionth time!  In reality, probably about the 12th time. I am a big fan of Jane Austen and have read all her books many, many times. Every once in a while I get on an Austen kick and want to go back through her books again. So I started with this classic. Every time I read it I find something new I didn’t notice the last time I read it. Some new detail or something someone says that I never paid attention to before that adds a new element to the story for me. I think that’s why I can read them so many times and never get sick of them. Any Austen book is definitely recommended by me! (And it doesn’t hurt that they are free for the Kindle or anywhere online!)

I got the new Pioneer Woman cookbook whose release date I have been eagerly anticipating since last fall. I am not as impressed with some of the recipes in it as I have been with her first book, but there are definitely some things I need to try in there.

2. What entertainment did I watch/listen to this month? (movies, tv shows, plays, music, concerts, etc.)

I’ve started listening to the Heidiand Frank Show again in the mornings. I only get a short break to pump at work so while I have my office door closed, I am able to catch a quick laugh with a few minutes of their show on their app. It’s definitely not a show I could play with the door open!

3. What fun things did I do with my family and/or friends?

We went to breakfast with the family for my dad’s 65th birthday! David was the center of attention, not only from the family, but from the restaurant patrons too. Everyone that passed by him had to smile and say hello!

Easter dinner was a small gathering at our house this year. Melanie brought Isabella and Erin brought AJ so we got some photos of the cousins together. Isabella was the only one on the egg hunt and she was so happy to to have all the eggs to herself and no competition getting them, it was a joy to watch.

4. What gifts did I give and/or receive?

My Dad is famous with the grandkids for the fact that he always brings them donuts and he is the donut monster. So for Christmas we got him a donut maker. This month, since it was his birthday, we got him some mixes and decoration kits to go along with it. He keeps asking David if he’s ready for donuts yet. I can’t wait until he is and can share those fun times with his Papa.

5. What illnesses or health concerns did I have?

Early in the month, David and I were both sick on the same day. It was tough to get through, but we made it just in time for him to get his four month immunizations a few days later and end up with a fever again! It was a couple of rough nights around here, but he was a trooper and made it back to his happy self fairly quickly.

6. What were my accomplishments this month?

I made it out to two different scrap nights and actually accomplished a few layouts. My first (other than Project Life) in close to a year! I was so glad to actually get some of David’s photos into my scrapbook. I still have a lot of catching up to do, but I am glad I am making some progress and incredibly thankful for my supporting hubby who allows me the chance to get away to these outings.

7. How did I do on my goals for the month? (Or any current short or long term goals)

I made it a goal a couple of years ago to start trying new recipes. And since then I have been on a roll! There was a hiatus during my pregnancy (when I couldn’t eat anything!!!) but now that I am feeling better, I am back on track and trying lots of new things. With the new Pioneer Woman cookbook this month, I made a few recipes out of it already and loved them all, of course!

8. Anything else noteworthy to include?

Another big month for David! His four month check up stats: 13 lbs 9 ozs and 26 ¾ inches long. He is 25th percentile for weight and 97th for length!!! 97th!!!  I had to call the doctor’s office to make sure they didn’t get that wrong, but sure enough, the stats are right. He’s going to be a tall boy!
He also started rolling over, eating cereal, and thank the lord on this one, sleeping through the night!
